How does the Proscreen™ work?
The angle of the large louvered openings in the Proscreen™ material allows sound to pass while diverting air bursts from vocal pops in a downward direction out of the back of the screen. Even extremely dynamic close vocal work will not allow bursts to reach the microphone. For the best results the Proscreen™ should be placed between the vocalist and the microphone with at least 2 inches between the screen and the microphone. The vocalist must be on the Stedman label side of the Proscreen™ to be effective. To clean, immerse the entire screen material into a mild solution of detergent and water and rinse with warm water. Wipe off excess water with a towel and allow to air dry before the next use. This will keep your Proscreen free from germs and odors. An antibacterial detergent may be used to increase effectiveness of cleaning.
How close should I place the Proscreen™ to my microphone?
For the best results, we suggest at least two inches between the mic and the Proscreen™. However, experimentation may reveal that less than two inches may be adequate, or slightly more if the vocalist exhibits long bursts frequently.
I treasure my ribbon mic, and want to protect it. Is the Proscreen™ effective enough to be used with a ribbon mic?
The Proscreen™ is the best way to prevent long term exposure to bursts from damaging a ribbon mic. The lifetime of ribbon mics is consiberably extended by using a Proscreen™. In fact, ribbon mic manufacturers recommend the Proscreen™ for use with their products.
Can the Proscreen™ be used for applications other than vocals?
The Proscreen™ is essential whenever directional air flow into the mic is a problem. It is especially effective in eliminating wind rumble from a rotating speaker, such as a Leslie. The rotating elements of these speakers move a considerable amount of air, which is problematic in close miking. When miking a bass drum from a hole cut in the front head, the inevitable rush of air to the mic creates low frequency garbage that prevents capturing the true sound of the bass drum.The Proscreen™ keeps the air from reaching the mic.
Can I bend the screen to custom fit it around my microphone?
NO. Do not bend the Proscreen material. Because of the holes cut into this material bending will likely cause breakage and bending it will void the warranty.
PURECONNECT FAQ
When I used the PureConnect to clean my instrument jacks there was a lot of DArk stuff on the tip. Should I clean them again?
For the best results, we suggest changing your MicroFelt tip when this happens. Once you have cleaned your instrument jacks adequately we recommend a regular cleaning schedule. You will notice that your tips will stay clean longer for future cleanings.
I've used up my tube of DeoxIT. Can I use a different type of cleaner?
We have tested DeoxIT and its performance is excellent and it is compatible with the material our tips and pads are made of. You may try others but we have not tested others so we highly recommend DeoxIT.
I noticed that the XLR pins that I cleaned are not bright silver after cleaning them with your cleaner kit. Am I doing something wrong?
No. It is normal for the bright color to become darker as it ages and it won't affect the connector performance. When cleaning connectors with our kits if you don't see any contaminants on the felt after cleaning the connector, it is clean and it will make a good reliable connection.
